OUR HISTORY
Our school, which opened in 1932, is named for Phoebe Apperson Hearst, noted philanthropist, wife of Senator George Hearst, and mother of publishing magnate William Randolph Hearst. Mrs. Hearst was a proponent of early childhood education; a financial benefactor to Washington's Kindergarten College, where teachers were trained; and co-founder of the national Parent Teacher Association (PTA). A six-foot marble and bronze aquarium, donated by her family in her memory, still serves as a teaching tool in one of our pre-K classrooms.
