Happy (almost) October!

The extra chill in the air reminds us that fall is here, in full swing!

This week our kids were invited to participate in nominating students for student government. Student government is new to Hearst this year. We are very excited to give students more leadership experiences. You might spend some time talking at

home about elections and government and how elected officials work to serve their communities.

 Upcoming Instructional Highlights!

•     This week we will conduct our initial Math Fluency Assessments in grades K-5. Find out your child(ren)’s results and then work to improve math fluency by working nightly for about 10 minutes at home.
•     Our new writing curriculum is in full swing. Ask your child to show you some of the writing he/she is doing in class!

New Staff Highlight

Picture1.jpgMargueritte Bortroff comes to us fresh out of college where she studied Illustration. Ms. Bortroff is an incredible artist! She has already shown her work off at Hearst by decorating some furniture and creating the picture collage in the front showcase. Ms. "B"  is also our after school arts instructor.  She hopes to study education and become a teacher and has a true passion for health and wellness.  If you haven’t met Ms. Bortroff yet, go by Ms. Dawkins’ classroom and say hello!
