Our Mission Statement

Hearst Elementary is committed to providing all students with a rigorous curriculum integrated with exposure to the Arts. Our school is dedicated to encouraging healthy living and an appreciation for the world around us. Our staff work as a team to promote a positive atmosphere from PK through 5th grade.

LSAT

The Hearst Elementary LSAT team meets regularly with Principal Bill Kerlina, providing diverse perspectives—from parents, teachers, staff and the community—to help craft a long-term vision that fosters a Hearst community focused on high expectations and high achievement for all students.

The LSAT provides guidance on implementing Hearst’s Comprehensive School Plan and the school’s annual budget. In the last two years, the LSAT has played a central role in planning for Hearst’s expansion to become a comprehensive PreK-5 elementary school.

By law, each District of Columbia Public School has an LSAT or similar advisory group.

At Hearst, LSAT members include:

·      Four parents of currently enrolled Hearst students

·      A leader from the Hearst Parent Teachers Association who has a child currently enrolled at Hearst

·      One community representative

·      Four Hearst teachers

·      One faculty representative of the Washington Teachers Union (WTU)

·      One non-ET-15 member of the Hearst staff
