Hearst
Elementary School is now on Twitter. What's twitter and why/how is the
school using the service. Twitter is a mico-blogging service which
answers one simple question...."What are you doing?" The benefit to
Hearst of using such a service is the school now has a form of instant
communication with our parents. How will twitter help parents? Twitter
will allow Parents to be more engaged. Before twitter.com example: Parent's Question: Sarah how was school today and anything exciting to tell about? Child's Answer: School was fine, nothing really exciting to tell. After twitter.com example: Parent's Question: Sarah your school had a surprise visit from the Chancellor today, what did she talk about? Child's Answer: How did you know the Chancellor came to our school today? She talked about the importance of rest before taking the DC BAS Test. Another added benefit for those following Hearst on twitter.com, unscheduled notices regarding delays or closings. For example on March 2, 2009 DCPS announced a 2-hour delay for all schools. Those following Hearst via twitter.com were notified as soon as the announcement was made public by DCPS. The process is a bit quicker than waiting for local news stations to cycle through their list of closings which includes schools from surrounding counties in MD, VA and WV. It's great to know that all schools in WV are closed, but our real concern lies with the status of Hearst. |
