A message from HEARST ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Good afternoon Owls,

It was a wacky weather week that passed, but the forecast looks great for this week and we should get lots of outdoor recess time once again.  In addition to Green Week (see below), we have Potomac Pizza night tomorrow, the We Are Family Food Drive concludes on Thursday, and the auction is on Saturday. If you haven’t done so already, please buy your tickets to the auction as it’s always a good time and raises money for a great cause – our school!

Thanks for your continued support,

Jen

Update 2/12/17

POSTED ON
February 13
Good evening Owls,

Thanks to everyone who came out on Wednesday to talk with Principal Albright and Chancellor Wilson. It was impressive that families of students of all ages, as well as several staff members, attended Principal Albright’s session to learn more about Deal Middle School and their programming. Chancellor Wilson’s session gave families and staff the opportunity to share their ideas about Hearst and DCPS, as well as ask questions of our new Chancellor. Chancellor Wilson wrote afterwards and said “I was impressed with how strongly families felt that their children are getting what’s needed from an instructional and social emotional standpoint at Hearst.  It’s exactly what I want to hear.”  It was a great night at Hearst and I thank you for your support and advocacy on behalf of our kids, staff, and school, and schools across DC.

Hope you’re having a great weekend,

Jen

  • We have a new nurse, Nurse Carter, who will be at Hearst on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Please stop by the nurse’s office and say hello!

Quick Updates

  • Principal Albright and former Hearst students will be at Hearst on Wednesday, February 8, from 5:00-6:00 in the library to share information about Deal Middle School.  All staff and families are encouraged to attend! Childcare will be provided from 5:00-6:00.
  • Chancellor Wilson will be visiting our PTA meeting from 6:00-7:00 on February 8, in the gym.  You’ll have the opportunity to hear about him, there will be a chance for Q and A with the Chancellor, and time to provide feedback about DCPS that he hopes to use when setting priorities and crafting a new strategic plan. DCPS will be hosting larger, ward-based meetings with the chancellor in March and April with dates/location TBA. Please join us for this opportunity to engage with our new Chancellor!
  • Classrooms, doors, and common areas are being regularly wiped down and disinfected by custodians and teachers in order to help to stop the spread of germs and illness.  Please remind your kids to wash their hands and to cough into their elbows (not hands) so as to stop the further spread of any bugs.
  • Attached is this week’s Northwest Current article from Ms. Molino’s class.
  • Our Hearst Girls basketball team has finished the season undefeated! Congratulations to them and their coaches for all of their hard work. Stay tuned for information about the playoffs.
