Enrichment 1st Week Update

We made it through the first week of Enrichment! Here is an important update from our Enrichment and Aftercare Committee Chair about some upcoming events and the current status of our program as well as important contact info for Enrichment and INNIS participants.

It's been a busy week for the Enrichment and Aftercare Committee. I wanted to give you a couple of updates all at once.

1) Innis will be having a parent's night meeting on October 1 from 5:45pm-7:00pm in the school cafeteria. This meeting is open to all so please come if you are an Innis family or interested in finding out more about them. Innis will have staff stay late to cover childcare for the meeting.

2) Our Enrichment and Aftercare Committee met this past Sunday and had a great turnout. Thank you to everyone who came. We'll have our next meeting in a few weeks (TBD) so if you couldn't make it and want to help out, there's definitely plenty of time and opportunity. We're getting some new initiatives under way that I wanted to update you on.

3) We have our new Innis and Rec Liaisons starting this year. The purpose of these liaisons is to serve as a point of contact for parents on issues relating to both aftercare providers. We are constantly striving to make sure we have coordination and communication between all of the Hearst community and so these liaisons will help to facilitate that endeavor.

This year, the liaisons are Susanna Montezemolo ([email protected]) for Innis and Francisco Lopez ([email protected] for the Rec. Please reach out to them for Innis and Rec matters respectively.

Although we do have these liaisons this year, please reach out to Innis or the Rec directly for matters that you would like to raise regarding your child's aftercare. I can say from experience with both the Rec and Innis, face-to-face is often better than email or phone but here is the contact information for both Innis and the Rec:

4) The Enrichment and Aftercare Committee has started work on the survey that will be sent to all parents later in the fall on aftercare and enrichment offerings. Heather Rothman and Brigid Nawrocki are taking the lead on the survey process and drafting. We will provide updates when we have a more definitive timeline of when the survey will be going out.
5) We've wrapped up the first week of enrichment classes with great success! Thank you so much to Tosha Terry, Rhonda Hughes, Karen Brandon, and Liz Stuart for your on-site help. And I'd also like to especially thank the Hearst parents and teachers who are leading enrichment classes this year. On the teacher side we have Mr. Moe, Ms. Beech, Ms. Shultz, and Ms. Gilmore; and for parents we have Amy Farina, Eric Gravley, and Anna Porteus. We are always in need of parents who can volunteer after school so please email me if you can help out even just for a couple of days.

On enrichment classes, we do have an under-enrollment issue with the upper grade Spanish class at 4:30pm on Wednesdays. Currently there are only 3 students enrolled in the class. Language Stars is keeping the class open a little longer to see if more students sign up. However, Language Stars will cancel the class if they don't get a critical mass of students in the class. Please reach out to Language Stars at 773-935-7827 (option 4) or [email protected] if you'd like to enroll your child in the class.

As always, lease reach out to me if you have any issues or concerns about any classroom issues you are having or anything else related to the the enrichment session.
