Let’s Get Down and Derby . . .
The Hearst Auction Is Coming Up!
After a long break, the Hearst community is ready to get back together (in a COVID-safe way) and celebrate after so much pandemic isolation. Save the date for Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 6:30 pm. Get ready for a night of cocktails, heavy appetizers, music, and mingling with fellow Hearst parents and staff – all to support Hearst! There will be tables of silent auction items, ranging from sporting events, to restaurants, summer camps, and the always-popular teacher treats! Stay for the live auction and see how fierce the competition gets this year!
The ticket price includes the cost of a silent and live auction with tons of great items, food and drink, and the venue. You do not have to bid on items if you don't want to! Just come and have fun!
Tickets are available for purchase at now on the auction website.
Parents also are invited to sponsor auction items, like a weekend trip to Charlottesville or Assateague Island, at price points ranging from $200–$500. Explore the sponsorship options.
While we’re off to the RACES on planning, we still need your help! Here are some ways you can support the auction:

Did you receive too many restaurant/retail/hot yoga gift cards over the holidays? Get a gift that isn’t quite your taste but might be someone else’s? Donate it! |

Does your family frequent camps, sports practices, music lessons and local businesses? Do you know any celebrities who might donate signed goods? Please consider asking them if they would be willing to donate. We have a standard letter and form that we can |

Some of the coolest donations come from the creativity of our families. Consider leveraging your talents to donate something. Some of our favorites so far include helping your family build a fairy garden in your yard; an accomplished gardener who will bring you fresh bouquets over the course of the summer; and Flamenco lessons. |

An important part of our auction every year are “sign up” parties where families volunteered to host a certain number people at an event. Consider wine and cheese parties, backyard movie nights, themed dinner parties, and many other ideas like these: |
Picnic at Rock Creek Park Wine and Cheese Party Miniature Golf at East Potomac Park Breakfast at Wimbledon Watch Party Cinco de Mayo Fiesta Girls Night Out Guys Night In Luau Afternoon Tea Wine Tasting Beer Tasting Tacos and Tequila Memorial Day BBQ |
Oscar Watch Party |

Do you own a local business that serves the Hearst Community? We would be happy to work with you to find opportunities to promote you on our website and auction catalog as a sponsorship opportunity. Please contact to learn more. |
Direct any donations, sponsorships, or other queries to auction co-chair Mia ([email protected]).
If you’d like to join us for this event, but are unable to make the ticket price work right now, please reach out to Ms. Sartin ([email protected]) to access additional ticket options.
And don’t forget about wine parties!
Wine parties are the most fun way we collect donations for the auction. Open to all Hearst parents, we encourage you to join us for a night out (or two!) without kids. We just ask you to bring 2 bottles of wine – one for the auction and one for consumption at the party! Wine that is collected at the party will be bundled and put on the auction block in May.

Notes about wine party COVID safety:
- Events will be held outdoors.
- Events will be capped at a number appropriate for the physical space available. Members of the community are asked to sign up for only one wine party (at least at first) to facilitate everyone’s ability to attend one.
- Only fully vaccinated individuals (as defined by the CDC at the time) are permitted to attend the wine party.
- Individuals should not attend if any member of their household is experiencing COVID-like symptoms.
- The Public Health Subcommittee continues to monitor the DC Health reported COVID-19 cases in Washington, DC and will work with hosts to evaluate whether events should be canceled or postponed based on transmission levels during the week prior to the event. If cases are at a high transmission level (as defined by the CDC) one week before the event (>= 100 cases/100,000 in the previous 7 days), we expect that the event will be cancelled unless you prefer to postpone/reschedule it. If cases are at a substantial transmission level (50-100 cases/100,000) attendees will be asked to wear masks except when eating or drinking.
- Attendees should expect to not go inside the host’s house; if they need to briefly, for example to use the restroom, they should wear a high filtration mask (N95, KN95, or KF94). Hosts also have the option to fully deny access to their house during the event.
The PTA Auction Committee thanks you for your support and looks forward to seeing you at the auction!
The auction event proceeds support the PTA to fund academic enrichment programs, needed classroom technology, new library books, educational field trips, teacher professional development, and more!
