APTT 3 Step Up Day - 5/23/16
Tomorrow, on Monday, May 23rd, we’ll be holding Step Up Day for families of students in all grade levels. During the first part of the meeting, families will meet with their child’s current grade level teachers for a truncated APTT meeting. In the second half of the meeting, the next grade level’s teachers will talk with you about what to expect in the upcoming year. These meetings are a great opportunity to meet other families, learn about simple summer activities to keep your child learning, and hear about what next school year may hold for your child. We hope to see you on the 23rd!

Cleanliness of Playground
In order to help maintain a clean and safe space for our kids, please make sure that when on the playground, you encourage students to put their trash in trash cans and to pick up their clothes and other items. We’ll continue to collect all clothing, book bags, and miscellaneous items left on the playground and bring everything to the lost and found at the entrance to the gym. All items not claimed by June 17 will be donated to charity.
Water testing
Attached is a letter regarding the results of the recent water tests conducted at Hearst Elementary School. As the letter indicates, all of the drinking water sources at Hearst are currently below the EPA threshold. However, there was one utility water device located inside the boiler room that tested above level, but it is not accessible to students. Additionally, DCPS has worked with sister agencies across the city to identify opportunities for students to be tested for lead. Please see the attached letter for these opportunities.

DCPS Parent Leaders Listserv
As parent organizations (PTO, PTA, HSA, etc.) and Local School Advisory Teams (LSAT) begin to hold elections for next year’s leadership, The Office of Family and Public Engagement (OFPE) has received a variety of elections-related questions from these groups. In order to consolidate communications with parent leaders around elections and other popular questions and allow parent leaders to share knowledge and best practices drawing from their personal experience, OFPE has created a Yahoo group for all parent organization leaders and LSAT chairs which will go live next week. The group will provide a forum for OFPE to contact all PTA and LSAT leaders together as well as provide those leaders with an online network of their peers. Please email Elias Hoffman with any questions.
