Update 5/28/17

Good afternoon Owls,

What a full week last week, and what a way to end the week with such a fun Field Day. Thanks to Mr. Coleman and everyone who made it a success! Although we have a short week coming up, there’s a lot happening including multiple field trips, two focus groups on Wednesday, the musical, a visit from the Serbian ambassador, and Screen on the Green.  I hope you all have a great weekend and we'll see you on Tuesday!

My best,

Jen

Quick Updates

  • Thanks to Keri Sikich for filming the chorus performance at Friday’s community meeting. Here's the link to the video: https://goo.gl/photos/WA2U1qgzY7ZNnw4s9
  • The Principal Chat on Friday, June 2, will be held from 8:45-9:15 in Mr. Herrera’s room. If you were unable to make it to one of the focus groups this month, we’ll be discussing core values at the principal chat.
  • We’ve had an uptick in the number of kids making after school play dates/plans for themselves and trying to convince our staff that their normal after school plans have changed.  Please make sure that if your child’s after school plans have changed, you notify the office and your child’s teacher.  Also be sure to confirm these plans with your child before s/he comes to school so that we’re not all scrambling to call home at dismissal to clarify after school plans.

Every Day in May Challenge

Hearst is participating in the Every Day In May Challenge.  There are 21 school days in the month of May and our challenge is for all students to attend all 21 school days in May. The class with the highest in-seat attendance rate for the month will receive a prize at the end of the month.  Help your child’s class win the special treat by sending her or him to school every day in May!

A Note from Ms. Black

Dear Hearst Families,

I am writing to inform you that I will not be returning to Hearst next school year.  My husband and I both have been moved by the current refugee crisis to the point that we felt that we needed to take an active role in what is happening.  Therefore, we are moving to Spain in August to work with an organization that is helping to welcome and resettle Syrian refugees who are pouring into the area.  I am grateful for my time at Hearst, thank you for welcoming me with open arms.  There have been many moments of joy as I have watched students grow in their musical abilities this year.  I wish you all the best.

Sincerely,

Katie Black
