Weekly Update December 20, 2013

This week there has been lots of excitement as our long winter break approaches. Our students have not stopped working hard, however. In 3rd grade students built solar ovens, took them outside and made s’mores with our very own sun-power! Wednesday evening, students and parents enjoyed our Holiday Literacy Night, where students read books on various holiday and winter themes and then got to do some fun activities surrounding their topics. On Thursday, our 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade students enjoyed a live reading from author, Kim Cameron. Friday, we will hold our holiday school luncheon sponsored by PTA.

Harris.jpgStaff Highlight

Mr. Harris has been a custodian at Hearst for 6 years.  He has been with DCPS for 27 years! On December 27th, Mr. Harris will be retiring from DCPS. Mr. Harris has provided Hearst with hard work and a wonderful demeanor with our kids. He brings a special energy to our school (and our kickball games!) and he will be missed, for sure. Mr. Harris is a lover of everything Redskins and has never lost his commitment to his home team, no matter what their record! We wish Mr. Harris

Author Kim Cameron visits 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders!
