The Owl Fund is Hearst PTA's giving campaign, running now through December 31st 2026. Every family's participation — at any level — helps close the gap between what DCPS funds and what makes Hearst thrive. Your generous gifts makes it possible to fund wonderful programs such as: afterschool tutoring and scholarships, teacher funds, field trips, assemblies, PE-aide, gift cards for families in need, beginning of year, holiday , and staff appreciation week luncheons, composting, and community partnerships like CARE Brookland.
DCPS funding doesn't cover everything Hearst needs to give our kids the experience this community wants for them. The Owl Fund is how Hearst PTA bridges that gap — funding the people, programs, and resources that benefit our entire school.

Every gift counts, at every level — we're aiming for strong community-wide participation, not a specific number from any one family. On average, the PTA spends about $850 per student each year — that's what it costs us to do all of this. Please consider giving what fits your family.
If your employer offers donation matching, that's an easy way to double your gift.
The owl fund allows teachers to create amazing experiences in and out of the classroom for your students! Last year, 1st grade went on four different field trips that connected to our learning at school, all thanks to our classroom funds. The owl fund also supports us in getting what students need to have the most enriching school experience. The owl fund has purchased classroom carpets for whole group learning, appropriate and safe furniture for classrooms, extension and supplemental materials to enhance our DCPS curriculums, and opportunities for us to bring joy to our students. Any donation to the owl fund is greatly appreciated and benefits your student directly!

The PTA funds I receive have helped me in my work tremendously. I use the money for things big and small: replenishing school supplies, setting up my classroom space so it has all the necessary materials for our students, manipulatives for hands-on learning, and of course, field trips! The funds go towards making the Hearst experience better for the students and are greatly appreciated by the teachers.
The PTA funds support my students' experience in the classroom by ensuring that they have resources such as headphones, games for indoor recess and are able to attend field trips that extend learning beyond the classroom. As a new teacher, PTA funds also provided me the resources to create a warm and welcoming environment for students.
Many businesses give money to schools in exchange for your patronage. You can shop at your favorite stores at no cost to you and Hearst receives needed funds.
